DONATIONS TO FOOD BANK

   The rising costs of essentials, like bills, fuel and food, has affected many of us. But certain groups of people are more likely to face hunger than others. Some are between jobs, have health conditions or are looking after relatives and children, while others are in work that’s insecure or doesn’t pay enough to live on. Today food banks face a two-pronged challenge – the numbers in need are rising to historic levels (on 21 March 2024 it was reported that the UK had seen the biggest rise in absolute poverty for 30 years) but donations are dropping off a cliff. Last winter, 225,000 people used a food bank for the first time. Six years ago, in 2018, that number was less than half (69,000). The UK's food poverty level is among the highest in Europe. In January, the food foundation reported that 15% of UK households were experiencing food insecurity. FACE took the initiative to help the community by making several delivery of food items requested by East Barnet food bank during 2024.
