On November 14, 2017, a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck the western Kermanshah province in Iran, devastating the town of Sarpol-e Zahab. Approximately 95% of the buildings were destroyed, resulting in hundreds of casualties and leaving tens of thousands homeless. In response, FACE organized and delivered much-needed aid relief to dozens of villages within a 100-square-kilometer radius of the affected areas.
In January 2018, the first phase of the relief efforts focused on providing tens of tons of flour, an essential staple for baking bread, to support the victims and their communities. The flour was sourced from Gharmsar and transported to a storage facility near the disaster zone. Our relief team, based in Sarpol-e Zahab, distributed 250 sacks of flour (each weighing 40 kilos) to the most vulnerable villagers immediately after delivery.
The following images capture our relief team’s efforts as they delivered supplies to villages located tens of kilometres apart, ensuring aid reached those in desperate need.
The relief efforts continued with phase 2 in the second week of March 2018 and phase 3 in the third week of April. Part of the aid was distributed to villagers as raw materials, while the rest was baked using mobile baking equipment and provided to those without baking or cooking facilities.
